Microchip Needles, What You Need to Know About Dog Microchips Before Implantation

0
As electronics continue to miniaturise, they are providing us with many new means and methods of monitoring and improving our health, and even expanding some very exciting possibilities. An extreme version of this technology was demonstrated by engineers from Columbia University, who developed the smallest single-chip system ever made, which can be implanted under the skin with a hypodermic needle to measure the temperature in the body, and could even be expanded for more uses.

Currently, scientists have taken great strides in the functionality of microelectronic devices, from ladybug-sized implants that track oxygen levels in the body's deep tissues to tiny "neural dust" sensors that monitor nerve signals in real time. This time, the implant, developed by engineers at Columbia University, is the world's smallest single-chip system, a full-featured electronic circuit with a total volume of less than 0.1 cubic millimetres, breaking new ground.
This makes it as small as a dust mite and much smaller than the world's smallest computer. It's a cubic device measuring 0.3 millimetres (0.01 inches) on each side. This microchip is only visible under a microscope and required some innovative thinking to make, especially in the way it communicates and is powered.
In general, small electronic devices may use radio frequency (RF) modules to send and receive electromagnetic radio signals, but these wavelengths are too large to be used in such a small device. On the other hand, ultrasound has a much smaller wavelength for a given frequency because the speed of sound waves is much lower than the speed of light at which electromagnetic waves travel. The team therefore installed a piezoelectric transducer to act as an "antenna" for wireless power and communication via ultrasound.
This, combined with an on-board low-power temperature sensor, transforms the chip into a probe for real-time temperature sensing, enabling it to monitor body temperature and temperature fluctuations driven by ultrasound therapy applications. The implant's capabilities were demonstrated in experimental live rats, where it was used for ultrasonic neurostimulation, injected intramuscularly via a syringe, with up to seven implants at a time implanted into the experimental rats.
Eventually, scientists envisage implanting such a chip into the human body and then wirelessly transmitting the measured information via ultrasound. In its current form, this is limited to body temperature, but in the future it could also include information on blood pressure, blood sugar levels and respiratory function.
We want to see how far we can scale down the functionality of the chip," said the scientist leading the research. This is the new concept of 'chip-as-a-system' - it's a single chip that doesn't need anything else, it's a complete electronic system. This should be
revolutionary for the development of wireless miniature implantable medical devices that can sense different things, be used for clinical applications, and eventually be approved for human use."
——The study was published in the journal Science Advances.

Microchip representative products

The density of devices on microchips has reached the level of neuron density in the human brain. Such a level of microchips will prompt the computer and communications industry to update and greatly change the face of people's production and life. Scientists have been discussing the microchip memory line implanted in the human brain to treat Alzheimer's disease, or increase the possibility of human memory capacity. With microchips made of portable supercomputers, electronic notebooks, micro-translators and portable phones have appeared one after another.
Microchips are computerised chips with identification numbers written on them in biochemical glass tubes co-compatible with animal tissues. The whole microchip is only the size of a grain of rice (13mm × 2.1mm), and it is installed in a sterile way in a needle, and after implanted into the animal's subcutaneous tissue by subcutaneous injection, it can be permanently retained in the body of the animal. The microchip provides a safe, accurate, simple and cost-effective permanent identification of the animal and protects the pet in the event of loss or theft. The microchip has a non-repeatable number written on it, and when it encounters the low-energy electromagnetic waves emitted by the reader, the reader will display the number on the chip on its display. The entire reading process takes only a few millionths of a second to complete. Once the microchip is implanted in the body, the chip is encapsulated in the protein produced by the animal's body and remains fixed at the implantation site throughout the pet's life. The microchip will not wear out or be worn out, and there is no need to replace the energy source, so even if it stays in the animal for decades, it will not cause problems and will last far longer than most pets. Animals of any age can be microchipped. Young dogs and cats can be microchipped when they begin a vaccination programme; birds, horses and other pets can be microchipped at any time.
We have compiled a list of 25 integrated circuits (ICs) here. In an edifice built by Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce (both inventors of the IC), we think they deserve the reputation of being the best of the best. Some of them became monumental monuments in the history of chip development. For example, the Signetics NE555 timer from Signetics. Some of them became textbook design examples, such as Fairchild 741 operational amplifiers from Fairchild Semiconductor. Some of them have sold in the billions and continue to do so, such as Microchip Technology's PIC microcontrollers. A very small number of them created entirely new markets, such as Toshiba's flash memory. Of them all, at least one has become something obnoxious in popular culture. The question: what processor could power Bender, the bad robot who is both a drunk and a bong in the American animated series Futurama. The answer: the MOS Technology 6502 microprocessor from Mosstek.

Dog microchip injection has no side effects

Dog microchip injection technology may be unfamiliar to many first-time dog owners, but in fact, this technology has been popularised in foreign countries for many years.

For example, the laws of the United Kingdom, Israel and New Zealand make it mandatory for dogs to be implanted with microchips; Australia requires that cats and dogs must be implanted with microchips within 12 weeks after birth; Japan enacted a bill in June 2019 that cats and dogs need to be obliged to be implanted with microchips, and so on.

The technology was initially launched by the World Kennel Club (IKU) with the aim of maintaining the pedigree of purebred dogs. With the rapid development of China's pet industry in recent years, in order to put the breeding of purebred dogs in China on the track of internationalisation and standardisation of development, and thus to ensure the fundamental interests of the Association's members, IKU China fulfils the IKU's "Purebred Breeding Registration Management Methods" by carrying out the purebred registration of purebred dogs on the mainland of China, as well as in Hong Kong, Macao, and China's Taiwan region, and all purebred dogs bred in the IKU-approved kennels All purebred dogs bred by IKU-certified kennels can apply for an electronic chip injection with their birth certificates as a globally unique identity number, and apply for a Purebred Dog Pedigree Certificate with their identity number.

About the introduction of the pet chip

In fact, the pet chip is not a high-tech thing, to put it bluntly is a kind of integrated circuit, is a kind of use of passive radio frequency identification and micro-power consumption integration technology, after a special packaging process and made of micro electronic chips. The chip relies on the signal sent by the recognizer to generate inductive current, can be stored in the chip to send out the information, and read out the relevant information through the recognizer.

The chip's diameter is about 2mm, length 8-12mm, slightly larger than a grain of rice, service life of 15-20 years, at the same time has a passive, non-toxic, anti-gravity, anti-freedom, anti-squeeze characteristics, need to be injected into the back of the pet's neck through a special syringe, because the part of the skin is more relaxed and no nerves, a shot, life-long effective.

After injection, the dog will have a unique and independent 15-bit digital identity code, while the chip will also be stored inside, including the dog owner's name, contact information, dog name, dog breed and other information, the background of the intranet system, this information needs to be scanned by a specific device and the system can only be identified after the comparison, non-authorized personnel can not be operated in general.

About the introduction of the pet chip

Pre-preparation:

1, before the injection to give the dog a bath, on the one hand, because the dog can not take a bath within a week after the injection of the chip, wash in advance, can let the dog in the next week to keep clean, on the other hand, because the chip injection needle relative to the ordinary syringe needle to be a little thicker, leaving the eye of the needle will be slightly larger, the dog's body is not clean, it is possible that the injection site will trigger an infection;
2, if the dog is not raised from childhood, let the professional check whether the dog has been injected with the chip before the injection to prevent information disorder.

Injections:

1, in the back of the neck area between the two sides of the dog's shoulder blades, sterilise it with alcohol;
2、Grab the loose skin and inject it downward at an angle of 45 degrees diagonally;
3、After the injection is completed, use the scanning instrument to scan and see if the information can be read out normally;

Precautions:

1, the age of 2 months or less, pregnant or sick dogs are not recommended to inject the chip;

2, the pet owner personal do not give the dog injection microchip, is illegal;

3, after the dog is injected with the chip, it is best to observe it for about 20 minutes before taking it away to prevent allergies and other adverse reactions;
4、Don't give the dog a bath within a week after the chip injection.

Note: If the dog owner changes his contact information at a later stage, he should contact the relevant departments in time to change it.

The benefits of dog microchip injection

1, the modern chip, in addition to recording the pet and pet-related information, but also has a positioning function, the dog once lost, the owner will be able to locate according to the positioning, in a timely manner, not only can the pet owner from property loss, but also reduce the chances of stray dogs, reduce social pressure;
2, chip number as the basis for the establishment of the dog electronic files, pet hospitals record dog immunity information at the same time, the background system will be synchronised uploaded to the animal management and epidemic prevention departments for the record, the annual need for immunity, the dog owner can receive reminders, to avoid forgetting the time to delay the dog's vaccine immunity;
3, after the dog injection chip, it has a unique identity certification, as a dog with an "ID card", you can apply for exclusive pet insurance, after the dog is sick, the owner no longer need to worry about expensive medication, pet medical insurance can help you bear the major illnesses. (Pet insurance, some insurance companies can do, you can check online)
4, the dog injected with a microchip has the identity of the dog after the civil disputes arising from the dog, to deal with it can be justified, clear responsibility.
Note: Not all areas launched the chip, have positioning functions, details can consult the local authorities.

Generally, only dogs with microchip and dog licence at the same time to apply for pet insurance.

Are there any adverse consequences of dog microchipping

Will the information about the pet owner stored in the chip be leaked?

The information in the chip needs to be scanned by specific equipment and compared with the system before identification, non-authorised personnel can not be operated, however, if the authorised personnel have ulterior motives, the scanned information secretly recorded, and then leaked is also possible, but the chances of this kind of thing is very small.

Will the chip wander around in the dog's body?

A: The chip is made of special material, the size of a grain of rice, can be very good with the combination of subcutaneous tissue, as long as the injection of a week after the artificial not intentionally rubbing, a week later basically no problem.

Is the chip safe and will it harm the dog's body?

A: The chip itself is passive, non-toxic, anti-gravity, anti-freedom, anti-squeeze characteristics, there is no harm to the pet's body, unless the outside world is a strong hit, and just hit the chip injection location, it may cause the chip rupture, but the chances of this happening are also very small.
