What Is Touch Sensor ?Some Knowledge Sharing About Sensors

Touch is an important sensory channel for many animals and some plants; for example, our senses respond when our hand touches something. In the case of a computer, however, its input device is independent of human contact because it does not fail to respond when physical contact (e.g., touch or release) is made, maintained, or broken!Because of this, touch-sensitive input devices offer many possibilities for novel interaction techniques. Among these, touch sensor technology is slowly replacing mechanical objects such as mice and keyboards, with touch sensors detecting touch or proximity without relying on physical contact. Touch sensors are making their way into many applications such as mobile phones, remote controls, and control panels. What's more, current touch sensors can replace mechanical buttons and switches.
Touch sensors with simple rotating sliders, touch pads, and rotating wheels offer significant advantages for more intuitive user interfaces. Touch sensors are easier and more reliable to use without moving parts. The use of touch sensors offers system designers a great deal of freedom, helping to reduce the overall cost of the system, and the overall appearance can be more attractive and modern.
What Is A Haptic Sensor?
A tactile sensor is nothing but a touch sensor. It provides information about the object that is in contact with the sensor. The information can be the shape of the object, the size of the object or even the type of material. The sensor is sensitive to touch, pressure or any force on its surface. The sensor usually detects the above characteristics in the form of electrical parameters such as capacitance or resistance. This is then further processed to create a virtual image of the said characteristic. This is done by using other circuits which we also call as correlation circuits.
Structure Of Tactile Sensors
Tactile sensors consist of basic electronic components such as capacitors, piezoresistors or optical light sources and optical light detectors. The use of the above components depends on the type of sensor used. These basic electronic components are used in large numbers to form a sensor. These basic electronic components are laid out in arrays, such as several rows and columns. Associated circuits are then used in conjunction with these basic electronic components to further process the data captured by capacitors, piezoresistors or optical light sources and optical light detectors.
How Do Tactile Sensors Work?
Tactile sensors work on the basic principles of electronic components such as changes in capacitance, changes in resistivity and changes in light intensity caused by foreign object interference. The change in capacitance, resistivity or light intensity is detected by using this sensor. This change is then used to form a virtual image. The virtual image contains information such as the pressure exerted by the foreign object interference on all points where it contacts the sensor, how the foreign object is shaped, and the size of the foreign object. If you are confused by these statements, then just consider the fingerprint sensor. It can also be called a tactile sensor. The fingerprint sensor scans our finger which is the foreign object of the sensor. It then creates a virtual image by using the sensors and associated circuitry in a mobile phone or a dedicated fingerprint sensor. To sense the foreign object interference, an array or multiple rows and columns containing basic components are used. The foreign object comes in contact with these components. Now, after the contact, the input electrical parameters of the correlation circuit are changed. Then, the correlation circuit creates a virtual image as shown in the figure for the fingerprint sensor output. Creating this virtual image or getting data from the foreign object is the main purpose of the sensor.
How Touch Sensors Work
Touch sensors, also known as haptic sensors, are sensitive to touch, force, or pressure, and they are among the simplest and most useful sensors Touch sensors work like simple switches; when contact is made with the surface of the touch sensor, the circuit inside the sensor closes and current flows. When the contact is released, the circuit is broken and no current flows. A schematic diagram of its operation is shown below.
