In the TIA/EIA-568-B color code, the wires inside an Ethernet cable are typically color-coded as follows:

  1. Pair 1 (Pin 1, 2): White/Orange, Orange
  2. Pair 2 (Pin 3, 6): White/Green, Green
  3. Pair 3 (Pin 4, 5): White/Blue, Blue
  4. Pair 4 (Pin 7, 8): White/Brown, Brown

RJ45 Design Principles

RJ45 Pin Definitions

There are two common types of RJ45 interfaces: the DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) type used for Ethernet NICs, router Ethernet interfaces, etc., and the DCE (Digital Communications Equipment) type used for switches, etc. When two devices of the same type are connected for communication using the RJ45 interface, they must be connected using a crossover cable.
