Canalys forecasts that the global PC market will grow by 8% in 2024

0
Global PC shipments are expected to recover after seven straight quarters of decline. Driven by the holiday season and macroeconomic improvement, the market is expected to grow by 5% in the fourth quarter of 2023. Looking ahead, full-year shipments are expected to reach 267 million units in 2024, up 8% from 2023, driven by the Windows update cycle and the rise of AI-enabled and ARM-based computers.
According to Canalys, "The global PC market is on the road to recovery and is expected to return to 2019 levels next year." The impact of AI on the PC industry is profound and long-lasting, and leading players such as Oems, processor manufacturers and operating system vendors will intensively launch new models with AI capabilities in 2024. These initiatives will boost demand for replacement, especially in the commercial sector. By 2024, total shipments of AI-enabled PCS will account for about 19% of the market. This includes all M-series Mac products, as well as new products expected in the Windows ecosystem. However, as more and more compelling use cases emerge and AI is expected to deliver results, Canalys predicts that AI PCS will gain rapid development and adoption."

Ishan Dutt, principal analyst at Canalys, said: "After a long period of delayed procurement, demand in the commercial sector will surge in 2024. A November survey showed that the channel is optimistic about the PC industry's performance in the coming year, with 47 percent of respondents expecting their Windows PC shipments to grow 10 percent or more next year. In the past few quarters, macroeconomic disruptions have limited the budgets of small and medium-sized enterprises to purchase PCS, but they have also opened up many opportunities. Driven by Qualcomm's X Elite chip, ARM-based PCS will also emerge in large numbers next year. Although the initial upward trajectory is limited, especially in the commercial sector, the power consumption and battery life advantages of Arm architecture will be a major selling point for channel partners to market their products to customers."
