Recently, Garner, a data elimination company, launched a new mechanical hard drive disassembly product "DiskMantler" (DiskMantler), which can quickly disassemble old hard drives into parts in tens of seconds through shocks, harmonics and vibrations.

According to the different hard disk structure and the required degree of component separation, the disassembly time required by the DiskMantler is also different, generally only 8-90s for each hard disk to be disassembled, and for the welded helium hard disk, it takes about 120s. The operation process is also very simple, just need to scrap the hard disk from the feed port, set the dismantling time, you can be disassembled, the machine will automatically separate the hard disk components, such as shell, cover, circuit board, platter, magnetic head, etc.

Unlike traditional waste hard disk processing methods such as incineration and crushing, DiskMantler processed hard disks can be directly recycled according to different components, and consume less energy, the maximum power consumption of this machine is only 305W, in contrast, incineration treatment requires continuous high temperature combustion, and will create a lot of toxic and harmful substances. Pulverization, on the other hand, mixes different parts together and makes recycling difficult.
Of course, DiskMantler's disassembly process also has some drawbacks, because the hard disk disk will be completely disassembled, so there is a risk of data leakage, Garner also launched a supporting product - Demag. This is a super degausser, which can degausse the disk of the mechanical disk and the magnet in the hard disk. After degaussing, the hard disk can be directly disassembled into the DiskMantler. The matching degausser can not only ensure that all data is eliminated, but also make it unrecoverable. It can also make the magnets in the hard disk not adsorb each other or adsorb to other objects, which is more conducive to recycling.

According to the introduction, the DiskMantler can disassemble the standard 1 inch thick up to 3.5 inches of mechanical hard drives, for solid state drives because solid state media can not be degaussed, so you have to use a special solid state destructor to destroy the storage media.
