How To Detect If The Camshaft Position Sensor Is Faulty

How to Test, Two Wire Sensors
If you have a two-wire magnetic sensor, set your multimeter to "AC Voltage".
Have an assistant turn on the ignition key without starting the engine.
Check to see if current is flowing through the circuit. Ground one of your probes and connect the other probe to each sensor wire. If there is no current flowing through both wires, the sensor circuit is faulty.
Have your helper try to turn on the ignition or start the engine.
Touch one of your gauge probes to one of the sensor wires and the other to the other wire. Check your gauge display and compare your readings to your manual specifications. In most cases, you will see a fluctuating signal between 0.3 and 1 volt.

How to Test, Three Wire Sensors
First, use your vehicle's service manual to identify the power, ground, and signal wires. Next, test the sensor circuit by setting your multimeter to "DC Voltage".
Have your helper turn on the ignition key, but do not start the engine.
Touch the black probe on the meter to the earth wire and the other probe to the power wire. This is usually 10 to 12v
