The Working Principle OF Throttle Control Module Is Introduced

0

The throttle control module, also known as the throttle control unit or throttle body, is a vital component in modern automotive engines. It plays a crucial role in regulating the amount of air entering the engine and controlling the engine's power output. The module acts as a gatekeeper between the driver's input and the engine's response, ensuring smooth and efficient operation. It receives signals from the accelerator pedal position sensor, which reflect the driver's desired throttle position, and then adjusts the throttle plate accordingly. The module also communicates with other engine control modules to maintain optimal engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions. With precise control over the throttle, the throttle control module contributes to enhanced drivability, responsiveness, and overall vehicle performance.

What Is An Electronic Throttle Control System

The electronic throttle control system includes an accelerator pedal, ETC module and throttle body. The accelerator pedal looks the same as ever, but its interaction with the throttle body has changed. The throttle cable has been replaced by an accelerator position sensor (APS) that detects the exact position of the pedal at any given moment and transmits this signal to the ETC module.
When the electronic throttle controller first appeared, it came with its own ETC module. Almost all modern vehicles integrate electronic throttle control into the engine control module (ECM), simplifying installation, programming, and diagnosis. The electronic throttle body looks like a typical throttle body. It is equipped with an electronic servo motor or stepper motor and throttle position sensor (TPS) instead of cables. Real-time TPS data confirm the actual throttle position of the ETC module.

How Does The Electronic Throttle Control System Work

At its simplest, the ETC module reads the input from the APS and transmits the servo motor instructions to the throttle body. Basically, when the driver depresses the accelerator by 25%, ETC turns the ETB on to 25%, and when the driver releases the accelerator, ETC turns the ETB off. Today, electronic throttle control is more complex and powerful, and this ETC integration and programming brings many benefits.
Idle air control: The engine idle speed needs to be adjusted to take into account engine load and temperature. Some ETC vehicles do not use idle air control (IAC) valves or idling vacuum switches, but use ETBs to control engine idling.
Cruise control: Modern electronic throttle control systems electronically control vehicle speed through additional programming inputs such as VSS (speed sensor), gear position and set speed. Adaptive cruise control adds additional sensor inputs, such as from radar, liDAR or sonar systems.
Traction control: Using other sensor inputs, such as VSS, a single WSS (wheel speed sensor), and shift position, ETC can adjust engine output to reduce wheel rotation, such as when accelerating on low friction surfaces, such as snow, ice, or gravel.
Electronic stability control: At higher speeds, by monitoring VSS, WSS, gravity and yaw rate sensors, ETC can adjust engine power output to improve vehicle stability.
Pre-collision system: Using the input of the pre-collision system (PCS), electronic throttle control can cut off engine power in the event that a collision is inevitable.
Transmission RPM Management: On some vehicles with sports transmissions, ETC can use engine speed (RPM), gear, VSS, and other sensors to match engine speed to the desired gear selection. In manual transmissions, this is usually adjusted by the driver, such as stamping the accelerator during downshifts, but in ETC vehicles, "downshifts" are fully synchronized with downshifts for faster engagement and smooth transfer of power.

Electronic Throttle Common Faults

The common faults of electronic throttle valves are:
1, the engine fault light is a common fault of electronic throttle; After the engine fault light is on, the car should be checked in time to prevent safety hazards. If you do not understand need to go to professional repair shop repair.
2, the engine idle speed jitter and idle speed instability, the car idle high and low; When the car idles high and low, it is also the phenomenon of electronic throttle failure, and you need to go to a professional repair shop to check and repair the engine.
3, the car acceleration is weak: once the electronic throttle control system fails, the engine enters the state of "limping home", the throttle valve can return to the position of high idle speed under the action of the spring, so that the engine always maintains high idle speed; Need to check the electronic throttle control system problem, if in doubt, please go to the professional repair shop to find a repair master to check maintenance.
4, automatic transmission vehicles will appear shift delay, shift impact phenomenon; It may be that the transmission has a fault, resulting in a shift delay and other problems, and you need to go to a professional repair shop to check and repair.
5. The plug on the accelerator pedal position sensor or throttle position sensor of the electronic throttle system is loose or in poor contact, which will interrupt the signal transmission between the computer and the accelerator pedal position sensor or throttle position sensor, thus lighting the electronic throttle system warning light (epc), and the accelerator pedal also has the feeling of stepping empty; Specific circumstances need to go to the 4s shop for inspection and maintenance.
6, epc lights are frequently lit, due to excessive carbon accumulation in the throttle, which will cause epc lights to be frequently lit, the vehicle is driving suddenly turned off, but also keep shaking. It is recommended to clean the air valve;
7, start the engine, touch the throttle, rapid acceleration can feel whether the throttle open, if not open, indicating that the electronic throttle into failure protection mode;
8, cruise system off: when a throttle position sensor is damaged, the system uses the signal of another sensor, and the response to the accelerator pedal is unchanged, only the cruise system will be closed;
